The Strathcona Regional District and Campbell River Storm hockey announced a new agreement that will allow the franchise to remain a fixture at the Rod Brind’Amour arena for the remainder of the 2012-2013 season and many more years to come.
The new one-year rental agreement will provide set venue rental rates throughout the year that are based on some of the most competitive rental rates on Vancouver Island for the Storm’s access to ice time and rental space throughout the season.
“Campbell River is a ‘Hockey Town’ and we’re pleased to work with the Storm to ensure Strathcona Gardens is the home of the Storm for many years to come,” says Strathcona Gardens Commission Chair, Andy Adams. “In addition, this agreement makes Campbell River one of the most competitive and attractive environments to run a hockey franchise on Vancouver Island.”
The Storm approached the Regional District in October 2012 to discuss opportunities for reducing operating expenses. Together, the two parties have identified a means to stabilize annual venue costs for the team, while ensuring an important ongoing source of revenue for the Regional District.
