Edna Hewitt celebrates her 101st birthday tomorrow.

On Saturday Edna Hewitt will turn 101 and she plans to celebrate with her family at New Horizons.

Hewitt was born near Parkbeg, Sask. in 1913.  She married Alvin Hewitt and they had one daughter, Shirley.  She resided in Saskatchewan for 92 years and 60 of those were in Moose Jaw.  She moved to Campbell River in 2005.

Her family describes her as kind, gentle and independent. One day, when her roof was leaking, she set up the ladder, rigged a pulley system, climbed on the roof and tarred the section that was leaking.  This was quite a feat considering that she was 90 years old at the time.

When asked what is the secret to her longevity? Hewitt replied “green tea.”

Hewitt’s family consists of her daughter Shirley Reesor (Daryl), two grandchildren Cathy MacFarlane (Curtis) and Kent Reesor (Cathy) and five great grandchildren Cari, Jana and Jason MacFarlane and Colton and Brooklyn Reesor.
