Campbell River fire damages home under construction

Firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a home under construction

No one was injured, but a single family home that was under construction on Nelson Road was severely damaged by a fire Saturday.

At approximately 9 a.m., Campbell River firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a home under construction in the 700 block of Nelson Road

“Once on scene, crews confirmed a fire was underway inside a single family home under construction. Heavy smoke and fire was visible,” said Fire Chief Ian Baikie. “Quick action by crews contained the fire to the room where it originated in the home, however there was extensive smoke damage throughout the building.”

Fire investigators and an electrical inspector were on scene Monday morning working to determine the cause of the fire.

The cause has not yet been determined.

Twenty-eight fire fighters responded from  No.1 and No.2 halls with three fire engines, one rescue truck and one command vehicle.

“With the winter weather upon us, Campbell River Fire Rescue reminds residents to check to ensure they have working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms in their home,” Fire Chief Baikie said.
