Foul play is not suspected, say police, after a man was found dead on the beach Saturday morning.
According to Campbell River RCMP, the body of the 58-year-old local man was discovered by a pedestrian around 10 a.m., on Simms Beach, in the 1800 block of South Island Hwy.
The deceased man was found amongst a large pile of driftwood on the beach and it's unlikely he was carried in with the tide or exposed to the water. The area was closed off to the public for about three hours while Mounties investigated.
"All human deaths must be treated as suspicious until it is proven otherwise," said Const. Ian Gammie in a news release.
It is believed the man died during the night. An autopsy will is expected to determine the cause of death.
The investigation is now being handled jointly between the RCMP and the BC Coroners Service. The man's name has not been released.
The pedestrian who discovered the body has been in contact with Campbell River Victim Services.
