Boat fire gawker arrested

Campbell River Mountie was keeping people back from the fire when a boat pulled up, its deck littered with beer cans

What do you do with a drunken sailor?

Arrest him.

That’s what happened Friday evening when Campbell River RCMP and city firefighters responded to a burning boat at Discovery Harbour Marina.

The boat went up in flames just after 7 p.m. and as firefighters took care of business, police set up a perimeter to keep everyone safe.

That’s when an officer noticed a boat approaching the dock which had beer cans littered on the deck.

When the Mountie spoke to the operator, he noticed the man was impaired. The 64-year-old Campbell River man was arrested taken the RCMP detachment where he refused to provide a breath sample.

As a result, he’s now facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vessel and failing to provide a breath sample.
