Bail hearing set for Friday

A 84-year-old Campbell River man will attempt to get out of jail before his trial

An 84-year-old Campbell River man accused of killing his 72-year-old partner will have a bail hearing this Friday in Nanaimo

Caroline Doreen Surrett was found dead by Campbell River RCMP in a home at 874 S. Alder St. on the morning of Feb. 25. Her partner, Konstanty (Karol) Bukiewicz, 84, was arrested without incident at the scene and has remained in custody since then.

He’s presently being held at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre in Victoria and on Monday he made a second appearance, by video, in Campbell River provincial court.

His lawyer, Sarah Runyon, told the judge a bail hearing is scheduled for Friday in B.C. Supreme Court in Nanaimo.

Following that, on March 24, lawyers will confirm dates for a preliminary inquiry which is expected to take place in Campbell River.
