Assault suspect arrested

RCMP responded to a an assault in progress on Spit Road on Sunday around 1 a.m.

The investigating officer spoke to the victim who said that a male suspect had attacked him from the rear and knocked him to the ground.

The victim also said the suspect was still in the tyee Spit area.

The officer returned to his police car and was about to begin a search, when the suspect emerged from nearby bushes and charged the victim again.

When the officer ordered him to stop, the suspect went after the officer and knocked him to the ground.

A struggle ensued, but once a second police officer arrived, the 44-year-old man was subdued and taken into custody.

Earl Wilson of Campbell River is charged with assault and assault on a peace officer.
