Society plans to build an apartment building next to its Hillcrest House facility

The Campbell River Head Injury Support Society intends to expand its operations in order to provide its clients with a long-term home.

The society plans to build an apartment building next to its Hillcrest House facility as early as next year.

Shelley Howard, executive director of the Head Injury Support Society, said the owner of  property next door to their place at Dogwood and 9th, has agreed to sell the land.

“We’ve been working with the property owner next door and we have been successful,” Howard told city council last week. “He is looking at selling to us in January. We’ve put it to paper – we’ve got some building ideas, we’ve got some drawings of how the apartment is going to look.”

The society intends to build a four-storey building with up to 22 rooms that will be a mix of studio suites and one and two bedroom apartments.

There will also be offices for community non-profits looking for a place to put down roots.
