Abbotsford delegation to view Campbell River's homeless shelter

The heated shelter sleeps 16 in eight rooms, has a washroom and is monitored by staff

A delegation from Abbotsford is touring the city’s pilot project to provide a winter emergency shelter to people without homes.

The delegation is in Campbell River today to have a look at the low-barrier shelter located beside the downtown firehall.

Like many cities, Abbotsford has struggled to provide safe shelter to homeless people.

In December, the City of Campbell River won a court injunction to have a makeshift homeless camp removed from one of its parks.

In Campbell River, Family Services is administering a pilot project involving a refurbished shipping container that serves as shelter.

The heated shelter sleeps 16 in eight rooms, has a washroom and is monitored by staff hired through the Radiant Life Community Church.
