Imagine a fun-filled night with delicious international food, lively dancing, exciting prizes and thrilling auctions, all while making a life-changing impact for women and children with medical needs in Nepal.
On April 12, the Campbell River Community Centre will come alive with the energy of Rotary in Motion, an annual fundraiser dedicated to supporting international service projects. This year, funds raised will be directed toward mobile medical clinics in the Pokhara region of Nepal, with a special focus on women’s and children’s health issues.
“We go to villages that have never seen a doctor,” explained Ian Baikie of the Rotary Club of Campbell River. “These medical clinics provide care for entire communities, often addressing maternal health issues that would otherwise go untreated.”
A history of giving back
Originally known as Dancing and Tapas, this event began in 2006 as a collaboration between the two Campbell River Rotary Clubs. Until 2019, it was dedicated to international wheelchair projects. Now known as Rotary in Motion, the event has expanded to support various global humanitarian efforts.

Through its partnerships with Rotary Clubs in Nepal and ICO (a Victoria-based CRA-registered charity), funds raised will be 100% matched up to US$27,000 (about $39,000 CAD), maximizing the impact of every donation.
Rotary in Motion is more than a fundraiser – it’s a celebration of global diversity. Attendees will enjoy a variety of international flavours from local vendors, including:
- Royal Aroma (Indian/Nepalese)
- Nhau Vietnamese Kitchen and Bar (Vietnamese)
- Kung Fu Café (Korean)
- Yummy Shawarma Express (Moroccan)
- Stonehouse Teas (Desserts & hot beverages)
- Beachside Brewing Company (Craft beers & cold drinks)
The evening’s entertainment will be headlined by Time Well Wasted, a 12-piece band from the Comox Valley.
“There’s no space on the dance floor for most of the night,” Baikie said. “Time Well Wasted does an amazing job of entertaining and keeping everybody up and moving.”
