Carihi Secondary School's A-wing was demolished after a fire in November 2024 damaged it.

School District 72 says Carihi Secondary School will have four portables to house students by the next school year.

"We are progressing somewhat slowly," Superintendent Geoff Manning said during a school board meeting on April 29.  "We are now waiting for geotech results and architects to do their work before we can get in on more hands-on activities. We do have portables ordered, and they are starting manufacturing, I believe, either this week or next week."

Four portables and a camp kitchen should arrive before September. Two classrooms should also be ready for use by then.

"We're kind of in that frustrating time of trying to be patient while we wait for some groundwork to be done so that we can actually get on with constructing the gym walls that need to be put in," said Manning.

A late-night fire destroyed Carihi Secondary School's A-wing on Nov. 21, 2024. The fire was caused by spontaneous combustion, damaging the teaching kitchen, band room, storage rooms and more.

The A-wing was demolished during Spring Break.

"Our next update happens next Thursday, so hopefully, we'll have more information at the next board meeting," said Manning.
