BC Hydro is providing public notice of a road closure across the Strathcona Dam and the access road to the Long Point Campground.

The closure is required for public safety and tree removal logistics. The closure to all public traffic will take place Dec. 4 to 22, Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Temporary road closure signage will be posted in advance on either side of the dam.

The closure is related to early construction work required for the Strathcona Dam Water Discharge Upgrade Project. The main project work, subject to regulatory and funding approvals, will begin in 2025.

The tree removal work is taking place now to avoid the bird nesting season. Trees beside the Upper Campbell Reservoir shoreline near the dam will be removed at a later date.

It is expected other short duration road closures will be needed prior to the main project work starting, as well as for the annual spillway gate maintenance work. When the project construction work begins in 2025, public access across the dam will be closed for three years. Plans are in place to provide continued road access to the Long Point Campground during the construction period.
