People who are wondering if Quadra Island really could be swept away by a tsunami or have other questions can find out the answers at the Disaster Preparedness Expo.
The expo is on May 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Several booths and demonstrations will offer practical advice in the event of a disaster.
Attendees can learn how much water they should store, what services are available, how to use fire extinguishers, what an A.E.D. is, how to use it, and more.
The Quadra Fire Department will be demonstrating fire extinguishers and what ones can be in homes and cars.
Martin Metz, the Unit Chief for B.C. Emergency Health Services on Quadra will also be there leading training sessions on how to use an A.E.D., and where A.E.D.s are publicly available.
“We will be running half-hourly sessions for eight people at a time throughout the day,” said Metz. “These sessions will also include hands-on CPR training.”
Other presentations include the QIESS Ham Radio Team, the Canadian Red Cross, and the B.C. Wildfire Service and more.
"The N.E.P. Program is a key component of Quadra Island's Emergency preparedness and resiliency plan," said Kim Hawkins, the neighbourhood emergency preparedness program coordinator. "In a disaster, your neighbours will be your first resource for help."
