Campbell River's collect-and-release aquarium will showcase a variety of new exhibits, species, and displays

Campbell River's Discovery Passage Aquarium is set to reopen mid-May, featuring several upgrades designed to enrich the educational experience for visitors.

Since the collect-and-release aquarium's seasonal closure last fall, staff and volunteers have been working hard at revisiting and redeveloping systems preparing for a new and improved 2025 reopening, said Ricky Belanger, the aquarium's manager. This upcoming season will showcase a variety of new exhibits, species, and displays, providing exciting experiences for both returning guests and first-time visitors.

Belanger said the upgrades have been made possible through the generous support of the Pacific Salmon Foundation, Capital Power Ltd., the Campbell River Community Foundation, Rickipedia.ca, and hardworking volunteers.

"Their contributions are helping ensure the aquarium remains a vibrant hub for education, conservation, and community engagement," he said.

The aquarium reopens on Saturday, May 17 at 10 a.m.
