Members of the Campbell River Killer Whales Swim Club cleaned up debris and garbage at Ken Forde Beach this weekend.
Last year, the club brought 1,109 people together to clean up 8.5 tons of trash, earning more than $10,000 in cash and prizes.
To celebrate Earth Month, the club is inviting all sports teams in Campbell River to join in on the fun and participate in a cleanup as part of the community-wide Small Planet Cleanup contest, running until April 30, according to a media release from Small Planet Energy Inc.
Anyone in the Campbell River or Comox Valley Regional District who picks up litter and submits their entry with a photo to Small Planet Energy Inc. will be entered to win over $10,000 in cash and prizes.
To get free biodegradable garbage bags, garbage dump tipping fee waiver forms or for any other contest details, contact the contest organizer Tara Jordan at 250-202-7446, or by email at tara@smallplanetenergy.ca or visit https://smallplanetenergy.ca/small-planet-energy-cleanup-contest.
