The Campbell River Literacy Association has announce the celebration of Family Literacy Week 2025, happening from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1.
This year’s theme, “Learn to be Green – Together”, will engage the community in a week of educational events designed to promote environmental awareness and sustainable living. All events are free and open to the public.
"In a time when our planet faces pressing challenges like climate change, pollution, and the loss of biodiversity, it’s more important than ever to understand how we can help protect the environment," says the association in a media release. "Family Literacy Week aims to raise awareness of these issues and empower families to make environmentally conscious decisions in their daily lives, such as recycling, conserving water, and reducing the use of non-renewable resources. By learning together, families can create positive changes and pass on the importance of caring for the Earth to future generations."
This year’s Family Literacy Week will feature a variety of free events for all ages, including a hands-on launch party with activities like building mason bee houses, creating pollinator gardens, and making bird feeders. Families can also enjoy an exciting scavenger hunt throughout Campbell River’s environmentally sensitive areas. Additional events include a live performance from the Jellyfish Project at the Tidemark Theatre, available both in-person and via live stream for classrooms. Other highlights include a fun night at the Maritime Heritage Centre and a free family swim at Strathcona Gardens.
“Our goal is to inspire families to understand how they can protect the environment while learning together,” says Kat Eddy, executive director of the Campbell River Literacy Association. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to unite and take action toward a greener, more sustainable future.”
These events would not be possible without the generous support of our community partners. For more information, visit the Campbell River Literacy Association’s social media channels or contact us at info@literacyforall.ca.
