Centennial Outdoor Pool and area closed after hazardous chemical spill

Centennial Outdoor Pool has been temporarily closed due to hazardous materials spillage. According to a press release from the City of Campbell River, the spill occurred during a supply delivery. No injuries have been reported.

Centennial Outdoor Pool has been temporarily closed due to hazardous materials spillage.

According to a press release from the City of Campbell River, the spill occurred during a supply delivery. The material spilled is a common chemical used in pool maintenance. No injuries have been reported. 

"The City advises the public to stay away from the area and to follow directions from the City staff and emergency services personnel on-site," said the press release. 

Some roads, including Alder and Birch, have been closed off. 

Emergency personnel, which includes the fire department and BC Ambulance Services, are on-site to assist. 

The pool's programming for today, which includes Open Swim and Everyone Welcome Swim, has been cancelled. 

"The City will provide an update on the City’s website and social media channels as soon as the pool is ready to reopen," reads the release.
