School District 72 has confirmed that Carihi Secondary will reopen to students on Dec. 2.
Independent air quality testing has been completed, and the school has been cleared for staff and students to return. School staff returned to the building on Nov. 29, to prepare for students’ return.
Starting on Dec. 2, the former Oyster River school will be the main temporary satellite location for Carihi Secondary classes while B-wing is being repaired. This temporary move is hoped to last only three weeks, until the Winter Break, but repairs may take up to two months. A school bus will transport students between Carihi Secondary and Oyster River.
Some classes will also be held at École des Deux Mondes Elementary, and gym classes will take place at Robron Centre until further notice. To meet class needs, a few classes will also move to different spaces within Carihi.
To minimize lost instructional time, the school will use a simple Day 1 and Day 2 schedule with double blocks.
- Day 1 (Blocks A and C): Mondays and Wednesdays
- Day 2 (Blocks B and D): Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Fridays will alternate between Day 1 and Day 2
Start and dismissal times will stay the same, and the morning and afternoon bus schedules will not change.
On Nov. 28, Carihi students and families received detailed information about which classes will move temporarily to Oyster River and where students will attend starting Dec. 2.
