Due to continued low overnight temperatures, the City of Campbell River will activate a warming centre at the Campbell River Community Centre from 10 p.m. on Feb. 14 to 7 a.m. the next day.

The city says experienced staff will support people experiencing homelessness at the warming centre, which offers short-term stays for vulnerable populations to warm up and access resources. Visitors can bring leashed pets and belongings like bikes and carts, while hot drinks, snacks, and seating will also be provided.

As this is a warming centre only, with funding provided by the Province through Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, beds are not provided, says the city. This service is intended to supplement overnight shelter beds and daytime services already available within the community, such as Kwesa Place, Evergreen Shelter and Housing, and the 40 temporary housing units with support services provided by the City and BC Housing at 1299 Homewood Road, the city says.
