A Campbell River convenience store was filled with smoke on Wednesday morning.

Fire crews attended the scene at the 711 store on Dogwood Street Wednesday at around 8:15 a.m. Smoke was seen filling the building and blowing from the roof area.

“Crews were dispatched immediately,” said acting fire chief Stephanie Bremer. “They had a very quick response. They were actually on their way in less than a minute and they were on scene in under five minutes.”

Upon arrival, crews attacked and were able to contain the fire, which was in the kitchen. Bremer said the fire was stopped shortly after 8:30 a.m.

“It was an excellent response by the department,” she said. “They did an incredible job. Just getting the fire under control very quickly.”

Though she had not seen a complete report from the scene at the time of this interview, Bremer said there were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
