Access to Baikie Island, its parking lot and the Raven Trail will be restricted periodically over the next two months due to environmental work being conducted on the nature reserve.

Intermittent, rotating parking lot closures affecting pedestrian and vehicle access to Baikie Island will be implemented between Thursday, Aug. 15, and Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The closures are to facilitate several environmental projects that will be taking place in and around Baikie Island and the Raven Trail, which will also be closed intermittently during this time.

The environmental work will include relocating the parking lot, upgrading trails, restoration work, removing invasive plants and planting native plants. The City of Campbell River (the City) is undertaking these projects in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Campbell River, Greenways Land Trust, Wei Wai Kum First Nation, BC Hydro and Campbellton Neighbourhood Association.

The public is asked to follow all signage and traffic controls in place, and avoid visiting Baikie Island and using trails when requested to do so.

For more information about the parking lot closures, contact the City by emailing dogwood.centre@campbellriver.ca or calling 250-286-4033.
