Rivercity Players is holding auditions for its spring production and North Island Zone Festival entry, The Bookstore by Adam Szymkowicz.
The play is set in "the largest and most idiosyncratic bookstore in New England" whose future is uncertain after the owner dies and leaves the shop to her niece who doesn't have the time or patience to run a bookstore. A real estate magnate's generous offer is a no-brainer until the whimsical bookstore and its eccentric staff and clientele work their magic on the reluctant new owner.
This charming comedy has 28 characters and calls for a group of between 6-28 actors. The minimum number of actors is six broken down to 3 females and 3 males of varying ages. But the range will be between 3-16 females and 3-17 males, depending on how many come out to audition. Many of the quirky roles are of varying length and combining them together will call for a group of versatile actors looking to have a lot of fun.
Directed by Alistair Taylor, this play will also be Rivercity Players’ entry in the North Island Zone Festival in Qualicum Beach, which will be held in mid May. Auditions will be held at the Rivercity Stage, 1080 Hemlock St. January 19 and 20, 6:30 p.m. Callbacks: January 22, 6:30 p.m. Campbell River performances will be May 1 – 4, 8 - 10.
Rivercity will also be looking for a full complement of backstage volunteers for this production so if you're interested in getting involved in local theatre but behind the scene, this is a wonderful opportunity. Learn more at rivercityplayers.ca.
