The Campbell River Festival of Film is thrilled to announce the Local’s Showcase Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Tidemark Theatre.
The event celebrates the creativity of northern Vancouver Island’s vibrant film community. It offers an opportunity to connect with local filmmakers and view a diverse collection of short films that highlight unique perspectives and artistic voices within our region.
The evening is dedicated to short films from new, emerging, and experienced independent filmmakers. This year’s lineup includes filmmakers from Carihi Secondary School’s Video Productions program, the Comox Valley Art Gallery’s Youth Media Project, and Campbell River’s, Suzanne Jolly, who brings her newest documentary, A Wilder Way, straight from the Toronto Motorcycle Film Festival.
Jolly credits the Campbell River Festival of Film for helping start her filmmaking journey and says its an honour to coordinate this year’s showcase.
“The Festival of Film provides a rare opportunity for North Island filmmakers to meet their audiences and showcase their work.” explained Jolly. “It just makes sense for the Festival to give back – we are very proud to raise funds to support a bursary for local high school graduates pursuing further education in multi-media.”
The evening kicks off with a pre-party at Beach Fire Brewing, open to the public, in partnership with Stonehouse Teas, as part of their small batch Tuesday when they release of a new specialty tea beer. This casual gathering is an opportunity to mingle, share ideas, and connect over a shared passion for film. The pre-party begins at 5 pm followed by the Local’s Showcase at 7 pm at the Tidemark Theatre. Tickets are available at the Tidemark Theatre’s website and box office.
