SPIN MY RIDE: How I learned to love Mondays

I think you’ll agree that most people do not like Mondays

I think you’ll agree that most people do not like Mondays.

Especially this time of year with long days and lots of sun; its hard to transition out of the weekend and back to the reality work or school.

In my world it’s not much different. I do love my work at the bike shop, but Mondays are usually a busy day and there is no easing into it. As soon as the doors open we are usually swamped.

But no mater how crazy it might get, Mondays have become one of my favourite days of the week. If you know me at all, you just know if I managed to turn Monday into a great day, it must have something to do with riding my bike!

Rather than stress about getting back to work, I decided I would start getting up even earlier on Mondays and go riding before work. Not just my regular commute, but I try to ride for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I get to work in a fantastic mood, blood pumping and full of energy.

On Mondays I am also lucky enough to have a helper working in the afternoons, so, many times I am able to sneak out of work a little early and squeeze in another hour on the bike as I ride to meet my wife for the Swicked Night Ride. Then a little after 6, the group ride begins. It’,s an awesome night with a fun group of friends as we ride though the Beaver Lodge and Wood’s Creek trails. With three different groups you can pick whatever pace you want, and after a big day of work for most of us, it’s the perfect way to wind down the day.

I realize that we can’t all ride three times in one day and it does take some organizing with family to allow me to do this, but if you are ever wondering why I smile so much on Mondays, its because I just finished a ride...and I am already thinking about my next ride!
