What is one symbol of wealth that everyone has, but no one wants to boast about?
The answer is “garbage” and for most of us, the best place for it is “out of mind, out of site and preferably, far, far away.”
Why do we buy so much stuff, only to soon throw it away? And what does “away” mean? Is there an “away”?
Come to the Philosophers’ Café on Wednesday, Nov 12, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. as environmental educator Luisa Richardson helps us explore “waste” from a local, national, global perspective and ultimately, from a personal point of view.
At the free event at the On-Line Gourmet Cafe, Richardson asks us “If consumption leads to waste, who is ultimately responsible for the amount of waste we produce?”
Once a month a speaker will introduce a theme to the Café, and then all who attend can join in respectful, non-partisan conversation, or just sit back and listen.
You are welcome to propose topics and introduce them at future Cafés. Themes should be of broad interest and national significance, and have an element of controversy to them.
As with each Café, Richardson will have just 10 minutes to introduce the topic, and then the floor is open for 50 minutes of moderated discussion.
