It was the first Saturday of the New Year and the Campbell River Fish and Wildlife Association (CRFW) along with Tyee Marine held a one-day fishing derby on Jan. 3.

Bruce Tripp (right), CRFW vice-president, was one of the anglers who brought in a nice fish. Thirty-one people registered for the derby and 15 of those were at the weigh-in and dinner. The weather was cold and that kept many anglers off the water. A total of nine fish were caught and Rob Paddington registered the largest fish at 11 pounds 9 ounces. Tyee Marine donated five prizes for the derby. The boat prize for the most weight went to Lady 111 with four fish with a combined weight of just over 40 pounds. There were two hidden weight prizes and two draw prizes. The participants were treated to a barbequed burger salad and dessert served at the clubhouse.
