Kaylee and Kirsty Mascia competed in the Western Canadian Bodybuilding competition in Kelowna taking first and third place.

Kaylee and Kirsty Mascia Competed at the Western Canadian Bodybuilding Competition in Kelowna over the May long weekend.

They competed in the fitness section, which entails posing in a two piece suit and doing a fitness routine consisting of strength, flexibility, and dance/gymnastic moves.

Both girls have danced from a very young age, but only recently started serious weight training. Kaylee started weight training 18 months ago and Kirsty 10 months ago under the guidance of personal trainer Jeff Messinger owner of West Coast Muscle & Fitness. Sarah MacDonald owner of West Coast Muscle & Fitness and Ryan Bell, both personal trainers, also had a part in training them for this competition.  In the final three months of their training, fitness coach Sally Lunsford set them up with a diet and workout plan. Jeff, Sarah and Ryan, who all have won titles themselves in bodybuilding competitions, all helped with the finishing touches of teaching them how to pose for their posing round. Kaylee and Kirsty worked with their mom Kathy Mascia, who is a dance teacher and owner of Kathy Mascia School of Dance, to choreograph their fitness routines for the competition, which they will be performing again at Kathy Mascia School of Dance recital, Stars of Tomorrow 2014 on Sunday June 8 at the Tidemark Theatre at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. After countless hours in the gym and dance studio, the Mascia sisters’ hard work paid off when Kirsty walked away with first place and Kaylee third place.
