Many mountain bikers, runners and trail walkers enjoy the trails in the Snowden Demonstration forest but up until now they may not have known who was responsible for maintaining this extensive network of trails.

In May, the Recreation Division of the Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resource Operations erected signs in the Snowden Demonstration Forest acknowledging the work put in by the members of the River City Cycle Club (RCCC) who maintain the network of some 50kms of designated trails and 50km of smaller routes.

The Discovery Coast Recreation District of the provincial programme “Recreation Sites & Trails BC” is responsible for trail and campsite maintenance from Fanny Bay to Bella Coola.

Duncan Mactavish, the local Recreation officer said that working with the River City Cycle Club was a “great partnership” and that the club puts in “more time and money than I could afford.”

The RCCC club has a trail committee who coordinate most of the trail work in the Snowden forest.  Several times a year the club members come out on trail days to help with additional trail maintenance.
