A car hijacked Halloween night in a Vancouver Island McDonald's drive-thru has been found. The masked man who took it has not.
Saanich police recovered the stolen vehicle in the 1700-block of Swartz Bay Road with help from Sidney/North Saanich RCMP. The suspect was not in the vehicle and a K9 search was unsuccessful in locating them.
Saanich PD is investigating the Oct. 31 carjacking that occurred before 6:45 p.m. in the drive-thru of a Saanich McDonald's.
"A suspect, dressed in all black and wearing a mask, approached a black 2002 Honda Civic as it was preparing to leave the drive-thru," said Saanich PD in a news release, adding that the incident occurred at the McDonald's on Saanich Road, across the street from Uptown Mall. "The suspect opened the driver’s door, indicated they had a weapon and demanded the owner exit the vehicle. The suspect then drove off eastbound on Saanich Road."
Unharmed, the vehicle's owner sought help inside the McDonald's, where someone called 9-1-1. Police responded to the call shortly after.
Police are still asking drivers with dashcams who were in the area at the time of the incident to email: majorcrime@saanichpolice.ca
