The Strathcona Regional District is looking for artists to submit their work for two public art projects aimed at boosting community awareness and resilience through creativity.
This project is fully funded through the Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Adaptation grant funding stream to enhance community identify and foster social connection.
According to the SRD, there are two projects. For the first project, artists are invited to design, supply, and install a sculpture that represents a tsunami wave. The sculpture will be placed near the tsunami evacuation map by the government wharf (post office) on Walters Island.
"The goal of the installation is to draw attention to the map and encourage public engagement with emergency preparedness information," says the SRD.
For Project 2, artists are invited to create mural designs that reflect climate adaptation, inspiring ingenuity, hope, and community conversation for Cortes Island water tank murals. The murals will be painted on four water tanks at the Mansons Landing Firehall and the Sutil Road.
Artists can submit their proposals online at www.srd.ca/es-public-art, or by mail or in person at Strathcona Regional District, 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River, BC V9W 7Z8.
The deadline to submit a proposal is Monday, July 28, at 4 p.m.
