North Island Employment Foundations Society (NIEFS) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Chris Callanan, regional manager of employer services, as
the new Chair of the Board of Directors for the British Columbia Chamber of Commerce.

This significant announcement follows Callanan's previous election to vice chair, which was originally announced on May 29, 2024. His dedication and impactful contributions during his term as vice chair have clearly paved the way for this prestigious leadership role.

As chair, Callanan will now lead the BC Chamber of Commerce in its mission to champion policies that foster economic growth, job creation, and a robust business environment across British Columbia. He will continue to support the 80+ chambers of commerce and boards of trade, and their 36,000 member businesses throughout the province.

"I am deeply honoured and excited to take on the role of Chair for the BC Chamber of Commerce," says Callanan. "Having served as vice chair, I am even more committed to working collaboratively with the chamber and its members to ensure a thriving and prosperous future for businesses throughout B.C."

The BC Chamber of Commerce gains an exceptional leader in Callanan. His extensive experience as a business leader in the North Island, coupled with his proven success at NIEFS, makes him well-equipped to guide the chamber forward. Callanan's deep commitment to the community is further evidenced by his previous involvement with various City of Campbell River Advisory Groups and Commissions, as well as his past roles as vice chair of the Campbell River Chamber of Commerce and president of the board of directors for the Port Hardy Chamber of Commerce.

NIEFS is proudly supporting Callanan in this elevated role.

"We are confident that his leadership, expertise, and dedication will be invaluable in shaping a successful future for the B.C. business community," the organization stated.

The BC Chamber of Commerce is the voice of business in British Columbia, representing 30,000 businesses of all sizes from every region of the province. They are dedicated to promoting a healthy business environment and advocating for policies that foster economic growth and job creation.

With over 39 years in business, NIEFS is a cornerstone in communities, building extensive partnerships with businesses, other agencies, communities, and individuals across the Vancouver Island North region. These partnerships are integral to assisting people to build self-sufficiency through active and sustainable participation in the labour market and assist employers to hire the right people, with the right skills at the right time, creating strong, resilient, and healthy communities.
