It took less than 48 hours over the weekend for 100 Campbell River Women to join and become the 100 founding members of 100 Women Who Care Campbell River.
Each founding member committed to donate $100 by May 31 that becomes a group donation of $10,000 for immediate local impact.
“We had a timeline of 100 days, to recruit 100 founding members, we were astounded by how quickly it happened with 100 members joining in less than 48 hours and once we reached our goal, we continued to have more women sign up,”, Founder Colleen Evans said on behalf of her two co-founding members Amanda Raleigh and Tina Bailey
The first 100 members that joined became the founding members. They will come together for the first time, on June 22 at a complimentary cocktail reveal launch party to share a glass of wine, hear about the great work of local not-for-profit and charity organizations and vote to select the two local organizations to each receive a $5,000 donation. One hundred per cent of the members’ donation goes directly to the selected organizations; there are no overhead or administration costs. Post the launch, all registered members, including those who joined after the founding members, will determine when the next cocktails reveal party will be and keep the momentum going.
“It’s been an exciting 48 hours, hearing the ping of each new member who registered online,” Evans said. “We couldn’t have done this without the incredible support we received from volunteer committee members like Kelsey Lee of Chameleon Creative who worked with her creative team to develop and donate the website. D’Arcy Frankland and Faye Reynen who volunteered to manage all donations coming in by e-transfer and cheques and remind everyone to please make your donation by May 31. Bev Herperger of Anchor Inn and Suites who is donating the complimentary cocktail reveal launch party on June 22.
“Now that we have our 100 Founding Members, we are continuing to invite new members to join us and grow this opportunity for Campbell River Women Who Care, to be part of the movement. It will become part of our philanthropic culture moving forward after June 22nd, with all members having the opportunity to determine how often we get together throughout the year, hear from the organizations that received the donations at the launch event and nominate and vote on the local organizations to receive a donation.
“We’re just getting started and total members joined to date are already close to 150.”
The focus now is ensuring that local not-for-profits and charities know that they can self-nominate, to be considered to receive one of the two $5,000 donations. Members are encouraged to nominate the local organizations that they are passionate about as well. Founding members will vote on June 22 from all qualified nominations received to select the two organizations to benefit from a $5,000 donation. Qualified nominations will be posted on our website so founding members have an opportunity to read the proposals ahead of the June 22 vote.
Local not for profits and organizations who submit a qualified nomination will also be invited to host a table on June 22 to provide an additional opportunity for members to learn more about their organization. Learning about all the great organizations in our community is an important part of this initiative.
