There is nothing quite as magical as getting a glimpse of an artist at work in their studio.

It is an experience that cannot be replicated – for so many artists, their studios are an extension of their soul.

Every year for the past 16 years the artists on Quadra Island have opened up their studios to the public on the first weekend in June. For these two exciting days you can explore the amazing creative forces this community has to offer.

There is a huge range of work to take in. Nick Knuit will again be showing his amazing antler carvings and his hand crafted house. Gary Colter makes the most incredibly intricate jewelry from recycled watches and fossils. Gordon James will wow you with both his gorgeous prints, and the amazing pottery he makes with his wife Martha. Maureen Maryka paints such vibrant images of the West Coast that they just about explode off the canvas! Tracy Myerson will captivate you with the stunning colours and patterns in her fused glass pieces. And Terry Phillips uses textiles the way most artists use a brush and canvas - her quilts are spectacular works of art. These are but a few of the many talented artists on this year’s tour.

There is so much to see and learn, you’ll probably have to come back. Many of the artists’ studios are open year round, here is your first chance to meet the artists and see them in their environment. See what inspires them, chat with them and learn what they do, and maybe a piece will speak to your heart and call your name. Art truly makes peoples’ lives richer - it takes us out of our everyday reality, and connects us with something bigger. Come experience this for yourself!

Quadra is a beautiful island community just a 10 minute ferry ride from Campbell River. In addition to the rich palette created by the artists here, it is also home to some of the best mountain biking trails in the Pacific Northwest, spectacular kayaking on this rugged coast, hiking trails to challenge even the most experienced, and hundreds of rock climbing routes, not to mention sailing, swimming, golfing, fishing, and endless opportunities for relaxing in the summer sun! If you have never been to this breathtaking island, now is your chance.
