Country music singer-songwriter and producer Sean Hogan, alongside Sue Medley and Steve Mitchell, will perform on the Rivercity Players stage on June 28.

A night packed with songs and stories from three Canadian award-winning singer-songwriters will hit the Rivercity Players stage on June 28.

Waxin' Melodic: Under A Crescent Moon in June is showcasing the talents of singer-songwriters Sean Hogan, Sue Medley and Steve Mitchell.

The musicians don't want to reveal too much about the concert to keep it a surprise for the audience. Still, the trio will highlight some of their favourite Canadian tunes, said Hogan, who lives in Campbell River and organized the event. The net proceeds from the concert will go to the Campbell River Foodbank.

"We're gonna do a little bit of collaborating, and a little bit of Canadiana to cheer on Canada because of these times that we're living through with the U.S.," Hogan said. "We're telling stories. We're singing songs."

In 1997, Hogan's self-titled, debut album won Independent Male Artist of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Association awards. His following two albums, Hijacked and Late Last Night, were each named Best Country Album at the West Coast Music Awards.

A Sarnia native, Hogan moved to Campbell River after launching a successful career in country music. These days, he dedicates most of his time to writing songs and producing artists. He also does voice-over gigs for television and radio in Canada and the U.S.

Back in the early 2000s, while on the road as a musician, Hogan started a tour named the Canadian Country Christmas, which marked the beginning of his tradition of supporting local charities.

"It's important to give back," Hogan said. "A lot of these communities where we've played have music stations that play our music, and so it was a chance to give back."

Medley, a Courtenay native, has toured with Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp, performed at the Juno Awards and on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. She is a Juno-Award winner and a gold record-awarded singer and songwriter.

Mitchell, from the mid-Island, returned to Vancouver Island after spending 15 years writing over a thousand songs as a songwriter in Nashville.
