Life Drawing is one of the many classes on offer this fall.

The Campbell River Art Gallery has added more classes to its autumn line-up.

Beginning tomorrow, (Oct. 22) and continuing on Nov. 5 and 19, from 3 to 5 p.m., the public is invited to come work with writer Annette Yourk during her workshop, “Our Storied Paths.”

Our Storied Paths takes place over three Saturday sessions at two-week intervals, allowing time for preparation before each session. There will be time in class for writing exercises, discussion and for other creative process aimed at waking up our senses, mining memory, speaking our truth and finding ultimate meaning in unearthing the bones of our unique stories.

Yourk is a storyteller, freelance writer and instructor with TheScribes.ca. Her work in fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction has appeared in literary journals, anthologies, newspapers, magazines and more. She is a graduate of Simon Fraser University’s Writing and Publishing Program and of the Provincial Instructor’s Diploma Program in Adult Education. The cost for “Our Storied Paths” is $150 ($130 for Campbell River Art Gallery members), plus GST.

Artist Mary Deveau will offer a “Beginner Sculpting: Paper Clay” workshop at the Gallery on four Wednesday evenings, beginning Oct. 26 and continuing until to Nov. 16, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Discover the wonders of paper clay. Build your own sculpture/decorative pieces using slab and coil techniques. Imprint textures, add embellishments and explore your own style of mark making. After your sculpture is kiln fired to bisque, paint them with acrylics and stains to bring out the textures and highlights. The cost is $160 ($140 for Gallery members), plus GST. The cost includes materials and a firing fee.

Also, there’s still room in “Moving Forward in Watercolour” with renowned artist Caren Heine. This class runs on Tuesdays from Nov. 15 to Dec. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. For those who have some watercolour experience, Heine will help move you forward with her engaging and inspiring teaching style and expertise.

She will expand on the intricacies of paint and colour mixing, techniques for handling various painting surfaces, drawing and laying washes as well as brushwork techniques. The cost is $140 ($120 for Gallery members), plus GST.

And don’t forget “Life Drawing,” hosted by Glen Chambers. The sessions run on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. from Oct. 18 to Nov. 22.

Life Drawing sessions are open to those who wish to practice drawing the human figure in a group setting. Everyone is welcome and there will be no instruction, only the opportunity to draw a live model in a variety of poses in the company of other artists. Easels and tables are provided, but bring your choice of drawing or painting materials and the Gallery will provide the model. You can register and pay for all six sessions prior to the start date, for $62.50 plus GST, or pay a drop-in rate of $12.50 per session.
