Learn the fascinating art of poured watercolours at Campbell River Art Gallery workshop

Participants will start with stretching watercolour paper and becoming familiar with liquid watercolours

Learn to create a poured watercolour painting with artist Catherine Martha Holmes during a five part class at the Campbell River Art Gallery starting Friday, Nov. 6.

Participants will start with stretching watercolour paper and becoming familiar with liquid watercolours, tube paints and drawing gum. Students will then review their chosen images, apply drawing gum and paint using a limited palette of primary colours. Watercolour stretching boards will be provided and watercolour paper will be available for a small fee. The class will run from Nov. 6 until Dec. 4 on Fridays from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The class costs $120 for Campbell River Art Gallery members and $140 for non-members.

Holmes has been working as an artist for decades.

She received her Bachelor of Arts, with a concentration in Fine Arts, and her Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University. During her career she has illustrated for the Ministry of Natural Resources, worked as a visiting artist in Toronto schools and illustrated for six magazines in Yellowknife. Locally, Holmes exhibited 49 paintings in her 49th year and has taught watercolour painting and children’s book illustration.
