College buddies hit the links in The Foursome

Rivercity Players present a production about four college buddies who have grown up but long to rekindle their college years

A 20-year reunion is not enough for four old pals to relive their university glory days so they hit the golf course in Rivercity Players’ “readers theatre” production of The Foursome.

Four buddies revisit their past, while assessing their present lives, in Norm Foster’s hilarious script and is brought to an audience in a unique experiment by Campbell River’s veteran community theatre troupe.

Utilizing the more intimate venue of Rivercity Players’ clubhouse, this production uses a “readers theatre” presentation involving less formal stage techniques.

Unencumbered by a large set, the actors read the scripts rather than memorize the lines but they do act out much of the play.

“Readers theatre” uses actors’ vocal expression to present the story more than traditional theatrical presentation.

And with a script as hilarious as Norm Foster’s – one of Canada’s more popular and successful writers of comedic plays – the entertainment value is second to none.

Foster’s comedic plays are produced throughout Canada because they’re not set in the Bronx or in L.A.

Rivercity Players has brought a number of Foster’s plays to the local stage over the years – the Melville Boys, Opening Night, and the Affections of May.

Wanting to bring something to the audience while not taxing on group resources, Rivercity Players chose to bring the “readers theatre” concept to the city for the first time in its intimate 70-seat clubhouse.

Rivercity Players’ readers theatre production of The Foursome will be performed Fri., Feb. 3 and Sat., Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Rivercity Players, 1080 Hemlock Street.

Tickets are $10 and there will be a cash bar. Tickets are available at Impressions Galley and at rivercityp@gmail.com
