The Campbell River Singers will share the stylings of artists ranging from Mozart to Elvis when they present their annual spring concert, In the Swing, Sunday, April 26 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church.
Conductor John Montgomery and Assistant Conductor Shelley Roberts have chosen a wide variety of musical selections to appeal to many tastes and moods, and several special guests will spice the afternoon.
“In the Swing” is taken from the Megamix Medley of the same name. This selection will take you back to the fifties and sixties with “(American) Bandstand Boogie”, Elvis’ “Jailhouse Rock”, “At the Hop”, and “It Don’t mean a Thing (If it Ain’t Got That Swing)”.
You’ll want to ‘put another nickel in the nickelodeon’ for “Music! Music! Music!”, and hum along to selections from Gershwin, and Rodgers & Hammerstein. A variety of folk songs from Canada, U.S., Australia and Ireland, as well as rousing spirituals, will raise your spirit and set your toes to tapping.
Local musicians Jack Clark on percussion, and Dan Montgomery on Bass, will accompany and add pizzaz to the jazz and swing numbers performed.
Mozart’s “Turkish March for Voices” is a very recognizable and fun arrangement with the musical instruments being replaced by choir voices. This piece will be interpreted in two ways, first by the choir, and again by local award-winning pianist, Matthew Krell, student of Shelley Roberts, playing “Concert Paraphrase on the Turkish March” by Volodos.
Campbell River Singers are pleased to have as special guests, Anne Young’s Antics Theatre. Antics Dinner Theatre is celebrating its 14th year of entertaining local audiences.
Young and her troupe will be provide a hilarious glimpse of what happens when you fail to double check a church bulletin.
This concert will be dedicated to the memory of Walter Niederberger, a long time member of the bass section. It begins at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s, on the corner of Dogwood and Pinecrest.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and are available from choir members or at the door.
