The garden at Campbell River’s Sybil Andrews cottage will be transformed Saturday, July 22 from a well-cared-for grassy lawn, into the beautiful outdoor setting for the release of Awakeneers debut studio album.
Back in town after concerts at Vancouver Island MusicFest and 39 Days of July festival, and before two album release concerts on Cortes Island, and one on Quadra, the Awakeneers are looking forward to playing for their following in Willow Point. Sponsored by Patrons of the Arts (POTA) and the Campbell River Arts Council as part of their album recording grant, this free event will feature live music, stories behind the songs, CD signing, and free snacks.
Tickets are free, but attendees are encouraged to reserve one online to save their spot.
“We’re looking forward to a lovely evening” says Immanuel McKenty, one of the six band-members, and the group’s tour manager. “I think it’s going to be a perfect setting for this event; it’s a concert we’ve been envisioning since first receiving the POTA grant last fall. Getting the album completed in time for our summer concerts has been an intense project, but also very rewarding, and we’re excited about the chance to share it with everyone we’ve met in Campbell River during the last year and a half that we’ve been based here. Especially the dedicated attendees of our Acoustic Matinee series, and the wonderful folks at the Campbell River Arts Council and POTA who have helped make it possible”
Awakeneers’ self-titled debut album is a mix of gentle folk songs, thoughtful lyrics, and multipart harmonies — with a few surprises thrown in.
There will be some seating at the event, but attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to make the evening cozy, warm, and comfortable.
Date: Saturday, July 22nd, 7:00—9:00pm
