A stinky good time

No fewer than 10 varieties of garlic will be on display in Merville at Garlic Fest

The Fifth Annual Garlic Fest will be stinkier than ever as it is moving to the Big Yellow Merville Hall, in lovely downtown Merville.

On Sunday, Aug. 7, there will be lots of fun at this family event for all ages, from a farm yard kids’ zone to garlic sellers to garlic infused spirits and food tastings.

The Comox Valley is the land of plenty and the Merville hall is the hub of this large agricultural region. Garlic is a mainstay crop here and growers rally around the festival each year to be celebrated and to sell their saporously fine crop. There will be over 10 different varieties of garlic offered by farmers and food vendors will vie for the most intriguing garlic concoction.

Outside, while you browse, buy and taste, you will be entertained by talented local musicians helping to get you into the summertime food festival mood. Inside the big hall you’ll find local beer, wine and spirit vendors, as well as chefs who will create savoury garlic gastronomic delights to suit every palate.

The Big Yellow Merville hall is embarking on the extensive renovation of the Stolen Church and Manse and while there is no charge to attend the Garlic Fest event, small donations to help with the upgrades would be greatly appreciated.
