Keilah Hanson received the Aboriginal James Hovell Award at Carihi School for Aboriginal Achievment on A student Honour Roll and Aboriginal Kwakwala language. She also received a bursary from the Wilson family. Hanson and hundreds of students graduate from Carihi and Timberline schools this week.

On Sunday, the U-18 Boys Marine Harvest Football Club participated in their final community fundraiser along with their sponsor, Marine Harvest before departing to the provincial championships in Penticton July the 7. The event included a car wash and a salmon barbeque, with all proceeds going to the United Way. The event raised over $600.

Ocean Grove Elementary students and staff gather around 25-foot section of old growth red cedar that will be transformed into the school’s new totem, featuring a thunderbird and killer whale. First Nations carvers Ralph Wilson and Ross Bell are donating their time and services to do the pole. The red cedar was donated by Western Forest Products and dropped off by West Coast Hauling.
