Thrifty Foods provides fresh ‘Food for Families’

Thrifty Foods annual Food For Families food drive is underway with the goal of providing fresh food to 16 B.C. food banks

Thrifty Foods annual Food For Families food drive is underway with the goal of providing fresh food to 16 B.C. food banks including the Campbell River Food Bank.

“The program provides Thrifty Foods customers with the option of adding a $5, $10, or $20 Food For Families gift voucher to their grocery order – funds that are then transformed into a Smile Card for the purchase of fresh groceries throughout the year,” says Thrifty Foods Campbell River Store Manager Bill Rutledge.

“I am always impressed by our customers who have families of their own to feed as they help to provide the Campbell River and District Food Bank Society with access to fresh and nutritious food.”

Food bank spokesperson Anne Minosky says Food For Families provided the Campbell River food bank with about $4,000 worth of Thrifty gift cards last year that staff used to purchase perishables as needed. Across B.C. the program raised $206,000 for food banks. More than $800,000 has been raised since the program began.
