More than 30 volunteers braved unrelentingly soggy weather Saturday to do their part to remove refuse from the parks and green spaces around Merecroft Village.

The Community Cleanup was sponsored by Tim Hortons and organized by the Greenways Land Trust.

In the space of about three hours the dripping volunteers had filled a dumpster with refuse from Robron Park, Pinecrest Park and a park off Quadra Avenue.

Their reward was Tim Hortons T-shirts, Tim Bits and lots of hot coffee.

Tim Hortons’ owner Dave Paquin said: “We’ve been doing this environmental awareness program for four years now.  We’re trying to keep the community and the beaches and the green spaces clean and educate people in conjunction with Greenways Land Trust.”

Greenways Land Trust operations manager Erin Nowak said: “Tim Hortons has been a fantastic partner in this Community Cleanup. The goal of this annual campaign is as much educational as it is an opportunity to make these green spaces as beautiful as they are intended to be.”
