Salvation Army seeks Kettle Campaign volunteers

Campbell River Kettle funds are directed to the community work at the Lighthouse Centre

The 2013 Christmas Kettle Campaign will run from Nov. 22 to Dec. 24 and The Salvation Army is in need of more kettle volunteers to ring those bells.

The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is one of Canada’s largest and most recognizable annual charitable events with all dollars donated staying in the community where the donation was made. In Campbell River, the Kettle funds are directed to the community work at the Lighthouse Centre located at 1381 Cedar Street.

On average, Lighthouse Centre assists 1,800 individuals/families every month. During the winter season (and over Christmas) this demand increases. The Lighthouse Centre serves lunch Monday to Friday, providing access to emergency assistance for food, clothing, shelter, advocacy, community referrals, showers, personal hygiene supplies, and Adopt-A-Family Christmas Hampers.

“The Lighthouse Centre serves our community with an ‘everyone welcome’ philosophy. Our primary focus is on support services for clients encountering a variety of barriers including low income, unemployment, addictions, social isolation, homelessness and mental illness,” says Sean Junglas, Community Ministries Director.

Junglas added, “This level of outreach is only possible because of the generous support from our community and dollars raised through the Christmas Kettle Campaign.”

The Salvation Army is going to kick-off the kettle fundraising campaign Friday, Nov. 22 at the Campbell River Storm home game.

“We will have kettles at the game, and our brass group will be leading the audience in some Christmas Carols during one of the period breaks,” said Tami Ness, Christmas Kettle Coordinator.

Kettle shifts run 2-4 hours each, Monday ‐ Saturday from 10 a.m. ‐ 6 p.m. Kettles are located around the community in 10 locations so there is sure to be a Kettle in your neighbourhood or near your workplace making volunteering very flexible. If you are able to volunteer, contact Tami Ness, Kettle Coordinator at 250-287-1440.
