Grateful participants and staff from the John Howard KidStart mentoring program met with RBC branch manager Matthijs Bruining and account manager for business and commercial markets Peter Phillips received a generous donation of $20,000 recently.

The funds will be used to support Campbell River and the Comox Valley’s only mentoring program to continue to provide services for children ages 6-18.

“We are very appreciative of RBC for seeing the value in connecting our young people with mentors to empower them to overcome their obstacles and achieve their dreams,” said Tara Jordan, John Howard KidStart coordinator.

RBC branch manager Matthijs Bruining said RBC knows that healthy communities need healthy kids, and that there is a shortage of funding for prevention programs like KidStart across the country.

“We are really pleased to know that our donation will help KidStart screen, train, and supervise volunteers to be matched with children and youth who could benefit from an Auntie, Uncle, Grandma, or Grandpa figure in their lives,” said Bruining.

If you or someone you know would like to volunteer three hours per week (making dinner, walking the dog, or playing board games), please contact John Howard KidStart coordinator Tara Jordan at 250-203-3111 or tara@jhsni.bc.ca to find out more.
