It was a snow day in Campbell River on Wednesday, Jan. 17, although not for students in School District 72 – their classes weren’t cancelled.
After snow fell over night, skies cleared in the morning with a few inches of snow accumulated on the ground. The mantle of snow around made the region quite picturesque.
A Pacific low pressure system brought widespread snow to the south coast overnight, Environment Canada said. The forecast for the Campbell River area is for a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon. Wind becoming northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. High plus 2.
Tonight is expected to be partly cloudy. Becoming cloudy near midnight with 30 per cent chance of flurries overnight. Wind northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming light this evening. Expect a low of minus 2. Wind chill minus 7 overnight.
On Thursday, Environment Canada predicts cloudy conditions. Snow and local blowing snow beginning in the afternoon. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind will be southeast 20 km/h gusting to 40. Temperature steady near zero. Thursday night will see snow or rain. Local blowing snow. Low around zero.
