Phoenix Middle School wins first place and $3,000 for Small Planet cleanup contest

Phoenix Middle School has received $3,000 after finishing first place for its efforts in the sixth annual Small Planet Cleanup Contest.

Over 3,000 pounds of garbage were picked up by 615 students and staff from the school. 

The $3,000 prize was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Campbell River ($2,000), the Comox Valley Regional District ($250) and Boston Pizza ($750 gift card).

"A huge thank you to the students and staff at Phoenix for your amazing effort, and to our sponsors for supporting environmental action," said Tara Jordan, co-owner of Small Planet.
