More earl grey, please: a British tea party

Since March, the Immigrant Welcome Centre has hosted several Expatriate Tea Parties

Since March, the Immigrant Welcome Centre has hosted several Expatriate Tea Parties.

They have been a resounding success and have given the community an opportunity to meet fantastic people from Britain, Australia, South Africa, and many other countries from around the globe.

The Tea Party provides an opportunity to socialize with fellow immigrants and for the Immigrant Welcome Centre to gain a better understanding of how they can support English speaking immigrants.

All immigrants are invited to join and celebrate this British tradition.

In July, the Tea Party was co-hosted by the Campbell River British Shop, a new locally owned and operated business that imports teas, food, and other items from the British Isles.

A popular event in town, there were more than 50 attendees in July, all having a wonderful time meeting each other and making new friends.

“I really enjoyed the Tea Party at the British shop,” said Oriel Brown, one of the regular attendees at the tea party.

“It was good to meet some other immigrants and folks from the same part of the world as I am from.”

The Immigrant Welcome Centre and the British Shop hope that the next Tea Party will be just as popular, and look forward to welcoming both previous attendees, and those who are new to the Tea Party tradition.

The Tea Party will take place at the British Shop in downtown Campbell River at 990 C Shoppers Row, on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.
