LUSH Valley, a food security non-profit organization based in the Comox Valley, has provided 240 meals for Carihi Secondary students for when the school reopens.

The school has been closed since Nov. 21. A fire damaged the school's A-wing, and smoke and water damaged the B-wing. Students will not return to school before Dec. 2. Some students will be heading to the former Oyster River School as a temporary satellite location for classes.

According to LUSH Valley, they received a call from a staff member at Carihi with an emergency request for support on Nov. 22. The school's kitchen is located in the A-wing and was damaged by the fire.

Katie Kennedy, the LUSH Valley warehouse manager, organized 240 student meals.

"In the following months, LUSH Valley will continue to provide over 100 servings of fresh and frozen soups diverted from other programs, as well as an HSMP kit to feed nearly 50 students each week," says a press release from LUSH Valley on Nov. 26.
