Learn the traditional cedar weaving at the hands of an artist who found peace and comfort re-learning the skills of her people.

The Campbell River Arts Council, through the Artist Residency Program, is offering the community a rare opportunity to learn traditional cedar weaving taught by Gail Stoller.

Stoller is a member of the Wei Wai Kai Nation, born in Campbell River, who wasn’t allowed to learn her traditional teachings. In the spring of 2016, Stoller started learning traditional cedar bark weaving. Always being drawn to arts and crafts she found peace and comfort in her creations. Since learning how, Stoller has mastered cedar baskets, cedar roses and cedar hats. She finds great pleasure in passing on the teachings she has received and showing others the beauty in creating from true traditional ways.

This introductory workshop  will be offered on Friday July 19 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.  The workshop will take place at the Sybil Andrews Cottage and Walter Morgan Studio in Willow Point, 2131 South Island Highway.
